Orbital rings are a much more achievable alternative. I'd bet good money that if we ever have fixed climbable paths to geostationary orbit it will be through orbital rings and not space elevators.

Multiple drones makes more sense as long as space is 62 miles from earth then a drone every mile with cables and motors could pull people and supplies to space and a ship in space could fly from there
Mind you it would take a long time and thats if its 62 miles

Well, this Structural Engineer says its a DOA idea, there are multiple flaws in the concept and its execution. For all practical matters, Humans are trapped in our gravity well that we call home.
